How to create and organize categories

Categories group your products so customers can browse. Build one, set its images and order, and choose which storefronts it appears on.

Step 01

Open the Categories page

Categories live alongside Products under Inventory.

  1. In the left sidebar of io.partyrentalstudio.com, click Inventory, then Products, then Categories.
  2. The Categories page lists your existing categories and shows how they nest.
  3. Click Add New Category to open the category form.
Step 02

Fill in the category details

Give the category a name and, optionally, artwork and a place in your hierarchy.

FieldNotes
NameRequired. The customer-facing category name.
SlugAuto-generated from the name. Edit it to control the category's URL.
Parent categoryLeave blank for a top-level category, or pick a parent to nest it (for example, "Tables" under "Furniture").
Description (Top / Bottom)Copy shown above and below the product grid on the category page.
Image & Banner imageOptional artwork for category tiles and the category header.
PriorityControls the order categories are listed in. Lower numbers appear first.
Step 03

Choose which storefronts show this category

If your account runs more than one storefront, a Visibility section appears with a checkbox for each storefront.

  1. Check the storefronts where this category should appear.
  2. Uncheck any storefront where it should be hidden.

Note: Categories are visible on every storefront by default, and this section only appears for accounts with two or more storefronts. Category visibility is separate from product visibility: hiding a category does not hide its products, and hiding every product in a category does not hide the category.

Step 04

Set publish options

Two switches control whether the category is live at all.

  • Show on website: the master switch. Turn it off to keep the category out of your storefronts entirely, regardless of the visibility checkboxes above.
  • Status (Active): marks the category as active or inactive in your back office.

Tip: Think of it as two levels. Show on website decides if the category is published anywhere, and the per-storefront Visibility checkboxes fine-tune which of your storefronts see it once it's on.

Step 05

Add and order products

A category shows products, and you control which ones and in what order. This panel appears when you edit an existing category.

  1. Save the category first (Step 06), then reopen it to edit.
  2. In the Products in this Category panel, add products and drag them into the order you want shoppers to see.
  3. Use the sort mode to switch between manual order and automatic orders like price or A to Z.

Note: A product can belong to more than one category. You also assign categories from the product form itself (see the "Add and manage products" tutorial).

Step 06

Add SEO details and save

  1. In the Meta Tags (SEO) card, optionally set a Page Title and Description for search engines.
  2. Click Add (or Update when editing) in the header to save.
  3. On success you'll return to the Categories list.

Note: To change a category later, open it from the Categories list. The edit form adds the Products in this Category panel and a Delete Category option.
